by Amarea Fulkakis on Oct.07, 2009, under Cabinets

If you happen to have a shed of your own, you may find that it gets pretty cluttered after awhile. Perhaps you have a lot of things in your shed, but if you don’t have any organization for all the things you’re storing in it, it can look cluttered and make it difficult to find anything when you need it. There is a solution to this problem thought - shelves.

When you install shed shelves you can organize all those things you are storing from your lawn and power tools to all those storage boxes you have no room for inside your house. Installing shed shelves is the ideal means of organizing everything in the storage shed. This type of shed organization cuts down on clutter, allow you to stay organized after installing your shelves. When you want something, you simply reach for it.

Four Good Woods for Making Corner Bookcases

by Nat Amberwoods on Sep.20, 2009, under Cabinets

Forget shopping for furniture, it’s tedious and monotonous (though sometimes a lot easier) and you don’t get that satisfied feeling you get from building something with your own hands. I’m a hobby wood worker and I’ve built a ton of furniture in my day and I suggest you give it a try on your own. If you’re just a novice and you haven’t built anything before I suggest you try building something small like a corner bookcase. There are a few good woods to choose from when making a bookcase.

Oak is a fantastic wood for bookcases, or for any furniture for that matter, because it is sturdy and looks really nice. Oak brings that rustic quality to any room if you leave it bare bones style but you can also stain it a whole spectrum of colors if you so desire. It does get to be a pretty expensive wood type if you have someone else build it but I wouldn’t recommend messing around with it on your own if you’re not a practiced wood workers.

If you’re into dark wood there is a type of wood that I find to be excellent in quality. That wood type is Mahogany. Mahogany corner bookcases look fantastic, especially if you match them with other mahogany furniture. The cooling dark yet shimmering brown color in mahogany makes any bookcase stand out and most of the ones you can find today in the stores have really nice cabinetry in them. If you’re looking for an antique look for your room, get some furniture made out of mahogany.

Tips on do-it-yourself kitchen cabinet renovation

by Adam Peters on Jul.03, 2009, under Cabinets

Kitchen cabinet remodeling can be done in many ways. What you need to consider is the final result that you want and the budget that you have. If you do not mind spending a lot of money, it makes sense to get new cabinets and replace the existing ones. On the other hand, if there are budget constraints it would be better to provide a new look to the cabinets that you have in your house. Either ways, you should remember not to consider the cabinets in isolation while remodeling the kitchen.

The best way to give a new look to the cabinets is by refinishing and sanding the color of the cabinets. If you want to have good results as well as make the task easy, it would be better to remove the hardware along with the drawers and doors. You should sand everything to get the finish that you want. For sanding to have maximum impact, it is necessary to use solvents so that wax or stain does not cling to the wood.

When you are sanding the cabinets of the kitchen, you also need to sand the doors and other drawer facings so that all of them match when the task is completed. Sanding will remove all the dust and once this is done, the cabinets can be painted over again or wood stain can be applied over it.
