Kitchen Upgrades That Make A Difference

by Larry Terson on Oct.13, 2009, under House Plans

There are several things you can do to make an immediate impact on the look of your kitchen. Painting the walls a different color is right at the top but it is something you should consider carefully before you jump in. The kitchen is usually one of the most used rooms in a house so you must make sure you make the correct color choice.

Before you jump in and paint your kitchen a new color, make sure you make the right choice, as some colors will not work too well. The color(s) you choose should blend well with the surrounding rooms and probably not be too bright and flashy. The kitchen is a room that is commonly used as a gathering place so the color must be cheery but not too overbearing.

Besides changing the paint color in your kitchen, the second thing that will bring the most impact is the flooring. When considering kitchen floor ideas, you need to choose the right surface that will be best for your needs. Not all kitchens will look right with a wood floor or a tile floor so you need to choose something that will be the right color and surface texture. Bigger kitchens might have a floor made out of wood that looks great when that same floor might look awful in a different kitchen.

Master Walk In Closets Are Getting Huge

by Lester Jackson on Aug.07, 2009, under House Plans

Most houses have normal sized closets and with them, there is only so much creativity you can have. New houses though, are often being built with large walk in closets in the master bedroom. In fact, in some of the more expensive homes, these walk ins can be a large as a room!

People love to get the most out of their closets and that is why many companies have sprung up that specialize in custom closets. You can spend a small fortune with one of these companies if you are not careful as they can really run up the price. You can also add things to your closet like furniture if it is big enough and some people have gone as far as to make their walk in closet an office.

Master bedroom closets are being made larger and larger as builders realize women love big closets. If you watch a woman as she looks through an open house for sale, you will see that she pays most attention to the kitchen, bathrooms, and closets. If your house has a closet that is too big, you can use the space for storage or turn it into a sitting room, reading room, or some other type of room. All you have to do is install the proper lights and you will be good to go.

Forced Air Heat vs. Radiant Heat

by Jimmy Jeter on Aug.06, 2009, under House Plans

One of the most popular types of heating systems is radiant heat. Unfortunately not many houses are built with a complete system that is set up to heat the whole house this way. It is more expensive than other kinds of heat so most often you will find just certain rooms, like the bathrooms, heated with radiant heat. In order to get floor heat in all the rooms, the house has to pretty much be built that way from the start.

Radiant heat is best installed when a house is being built because it involves putting pipes or wires under the floors. It is best to put it in right from the start as the house is constructed. If you want to have radiant heat in an older house, most people opt to install it in just a few rooms such as the master bathroom and kitchen.

When choosing radiant heat to install in your home, you have two basic choices. The first is hydronic radiant floor heat and the second option is electric radiant heat. Hydronic heat involves having pipes underneath the floors that have warm water flowing through them. This system, as you can imagine, is quite difficult to install properly and is best done in a new home just being built. Whenever you have water involved, you need to make sure there is no leakage that would cause big problems down the line.

Chicken Coops

by mboudabangang on May.21, 2009, under House Plans

If youre looking for chicken coop plans, there are some important things you are going to need to consider to ensure that youre making the right decision. With all the different types of chicken coop plans that are available, it can get confusing over which one you should be choosing. Once you have a better idea exactly what youre looking for in your chicken coop plan though, then you can better grasp which one will meet your needs.

If you’re building your own coop from one of the various chicken coop designs out there, it may or may not already include nesting boxes. If it doesn’t, all you really need is some plywood, a hammer and nails, and possibly some sandpaper to smooth the edges out afterward. A nesting box is really just that - a box, usually about one foot on all sides. Typically if you are constructing your boxes from plywood, you integrate several nesting boxes together as a single unit. Once you’ve built them, fill them up with straw or wood shavings and your hens will be right at home.

More and more people are starting to turn towards using mobile chicken coops rather than building larger ones that are stationed in one place. There are many benefits to using a mobile chicken coop, so going this route does become appealing to many individuals. There are some things you need to know first though before going ahead with mobile chicken coops because if you dont, you may find that this particular variation wasnt exactly the best choice for you.
