How Can I Give My Hair More Body?

by Tasha John on Feb.07, 2010, under Health

One of the features that can have a great impact on your appearance and style is the hair. Sometimes, we tend to emphasise more on the clothes and accessories, hence ignoring the styling of the hair. It is very important to take good care of your hair. Everyone has different kinds of hair, varying in the texture, and hence require different kind of treatment and care.

Even if you have natural volume in our hair, you should still take care of your hair, because routine shampooing, colouring, styling products, deficiencies and chemical treatment can damage your hair, resulting in hair thinning and hair loss. Therefore, you should always use conditioners, shampoos and oil that give volume to your hair.

When you are getting some product for your hair, it is important to remember that all the shampoos and conditioners that claim to do wonders do not always leave the promised effect. These may contain chemicals that cause instantaneous improvements, but leave the hair damaged. Hence, it is important to check the credibility of a product before buying it.

If you wish to give more body to your hair, you should try to use a clarifying shampoo. There are many options of brands and you should choose the one of a good quality. After you are done washing your hair, you should rinse them well to make sure no shampoo is left. For flat hair, the use of a conditioner is recommended. Other than that, the frequency of the usage of shampoo is also important to be checked, because very frequent use of shampoo can harm the hair.

Using a blow dryer instead of a straightening iron is better to give structure to your hair. A more prudent way to blow dry, in order to impart added lift, is to do it cast down. Keep blow drying till there is little moisture left in your hair. The remaining moisture is removed by running your fingertips through you hair.

If you have long flat hair - there is no point in trying to make them any longer. The end result will be flat look, which has become outdated with time. Therefore, try to remove the dead ends. This will give more volume. If you have flat hair type, try to cut your hair short and in layers. Your hair will look more bouncy and alive.

Take a shower at night, dry your hair and sleep with wet hair. This keeps body in your hair and also saves you much time from blow drying. In the morning what you can do is to brush them with a 5 minute dryer. Your hair will be fresher and playful. Other ways to keep body in your hair is to get curls or colour them in darker shades, if your hair is flat and straight. Never colour them in lighter shades if your natural hair colour is dark, because this will make the roots more obvious.

Last but not the least, eat the right food, take the right vitamins and do not take stress. Drink lots of water and milk, and workout if you want your hair to have more body.
