How Did America’s Height Average Get So Tall

by Ellen Roberts on Jan.25, 2010, under Health

In the 20th century in American every 20 years both children and adolescents grew about an inch and a half. There was a time when it was expected that the children were to outgrow their parents. “In terms of stature we’ve pretty much maxed out. Over the last generation there has been little change in height”, says an anthropologist, William Leonard, at Northwestern University. The average American’s height has hit the ceiling so to speak. In the past 50 years height has stabilized and the average American men’s height is about 5 feet 9 inches and for women its 5 feet 4 inches.

You Are What You Eat

Leonard explains the reason is that most American youths now face few nutritional or health-related stresses. Most Americans have avoided diseases and have consumed enough meat and milk in their youth to reach their potential genetic height growth due to the fact that most people grow most as infants than as adolescents.

Dare to Enhance Memory Without Being Smart

by Matt Santi on Jan.16, 2010, under Health

The memory is very precious to us as it is a window to the events that have taken place in our lives. It can be frustrating though when you remember something that occurred 20 years ago but not what you need to pick up at the store this afternoon. You can improve your short term memory fast and easy.

Your brain is in charge of decoding new information, or experiences that you are exposed to, to translate the information that has been sent to you. The brain will then decide how to make sense of this information. Your brain will file away this information, if you are making a concerted effort to concentrate on this element of things. You are helping your mind to act like a file cabinet, filing the information away inside. You will be able to instruct your brain to take the information back out when you need it, very much like you open your file cabinet at home and retrieve a selected file.

You may be focused on something else and forget that you want to improve short term memory because you’re too busy multitasking. Learning to focus on what is going on now will help you to store it for retrieval later on. Try to make new information familiar by including it with information that you already have. Remember that there are many different forms of learning out there so find one that is best for you. Some people need visual aids in order to really be able to remember things later on.

Use These Techniques To Apply Your Hair Extensions At Home

by Courtney Paige on Dec.18, 2009, under Health

Having a body of thick, luscious sensational hair is the dream of every woman and man but not everyone is blessed with naturally beautiful hair. For those who are challenged with that feat and have been unsuccessful with potions, creams and various hair remedies, hair extensions may just be the answer you need. If you are looking for ways to save money in getting professional hair extension treatments, consider doing your own hair extensions at home.

If you apply your hair extensions at home you can instantly change your look. You can add that volume, length and body that you have always wanted. There are two basic types of hair extensions that you can easily apply at your home. These are the clip in and glue on styles. The quickest and easiest way to add hair extensions is by using the clip on style. Clip-ons can easily be taken in and out at your convenience. For a more permanent style you might consider using the glue on extensions. These last about six weeks on average.

The best part about hair extensions are the fact that they can be dyed, curled, permed, or even straightened for that smooth, sexy appeal. The extensions work the same way as your own hair. When selecting your hair extensions at home, you can opt to go with real human hair which is the most expensive style or choose a cheaper alternative such as the synthetic versions. Both styles look great and will perform well.

Mind Mapping And Note Taking Methods For Exam Preparation

by S Ashley on Oct.23, 2009, under Health

What is Mind Mapping

Mind mapping involves the use of a Mind Map to represent ideas and concepts in a visual form where the central theme or topic is located at the centre of the mind map and subtopics are arranged around a central keyword or idea.

Mind Maps are considered one of the most effective note taking strategies and a number of different mind mapping software tools exist to facilitate the creation of mind maps.

Why use Mind Maps

Mind Maps provide a quick and easy method of organizing and highlighting the information that matters. This is particularly useful when you are studying for an exam as normal notes can be time consuming and even a barrier to revision. They are also useful for improving creativity, generating new ideas and decision making.
